What Children Need

Writer's picture: Mandie FowlerMandie Fowler

This week my family and I are driving cross country for my husband's 2nd (and final) full IronMan race. My students have been prepped and know our classroom procedures, and we reviewed all their work before I left. We are currently about midway through our CommonLit Unit titled, "Bad Behavior." Monday, as we were prepping for the week, I shared a TED talk from Colin Powell, the students had guided note taking and know they will be able to refer back to the TED talk later on when we complete our writing assignments. His message is a very powerful one, that I think applies to all new teacher too. Children need structure. Take a few minutes to watch, and let me know what your thoughts are.
