How can you increase student engagement?

The single greatest way to increase student engagement and academic achievement among at-risk students is to foster positive teacher-student relationships within the classroom. (Bouslog, 2021). Another way to increase student engagement is to foster student ownership of learning. Give students the opportunity to control how they learn targeted standards through guided choices of content and presentation (Kiser, 2021).

Students who learn to take risks and make mistakes are also more engaged. Model how to give and receive constructive feedback for both academic and social responses (Bouslog, 2021). Let them know that it is okay to make mistakes and give ample opportunities to revise and resubmit work.
